What To Do With Old Scuba Tanks?
Scuba diving is exceptionally thrilling; however, the sport can quickly turn into a nightmare if it wasn’t for that trusty scuba tank. The latter is a cylinder used to store breathing gas when the diver is underwater and is indispensable during emergencies.
While these tanks last for quite some time, they are supposed to be replaced at one point or another. Unless you follow a hardcore work regime like Mat Fraser and use them for weights, most people would toss their old scuba tank in the trash, but why should you when you can repurpose it into something better?
You can turn it into something creative, or even sell it for a little money. In any case, throwing the tank away is never a good idea.
Earn a little cash
When scuba tanks run their course, they become unusable for divers. However, just as wrecked cars can be sold for their spare parts, diving tanks are no exception. The valves within them are pretty useful in other equipment, which is why selling them can get you a few bucks. Conversely, you can also choose to sell the entire thing as scrap metal – that is, if it doesn’t bear much sentimental value for you to keep it around.
Make a tank-lamp
If you’re particularly attached to your scuba tank, you can turn it into something permanent such as a lamp – so that the cylindrical body can be used to hold a shade at the top.
This requires a little effort to put together, and you may need to get a few things from your local hardware store. With some adhesive glue, a pretty lampshade, and a base of your choice, you can quickly build an antique lamp that mesmerizes everyone who steps into your room. You can even get something inscribed on the body to make it more personal. Remember, the sky’s the limit!
Put some flowers in it
A beautiful vase can transform a dull space. However, most are made of glass, which is why they tend to break easily. In 2020, metal is considered sufficiently contemporary, which is to say that a scuba tank turned vase is a great way to make a statement.
The tanks are understandably large, so you can perch them next to the sofa in your living room and adorn them with some gorgeous daisies to tie the whole space together. Additionally, you can even polish the ‘vase’ with gold to make it more stylistic.
Turn it into a DIY grill
Who doesn’t like barbecue? Probably no one. However, not everyone can afford a grill, especially not the portable kind. Regardless, what’s the point of spending your hard-earned money in one when you can make it out of your old scuba tank?
Yes, you read that, right! Just because the tank doesn’t have any hydro doesn’t mean it can’t be used to make some delicious food.
