Acing Athleisure

Athleisure It’s the perfect mix of loungewear and the more dressier items such as blazers and formal trousers. The great news is that if you lived in your sweatpants until very recently, they can already make a comeback – and not just for working from home. Marry your loungewear with tailoring for example and create the perfect look. This trend has been tried and approved by the likes of Rihanna and Kim Kardashian – two of our favourite fashion icons. Have we managed to convince you yet?

Brands have caught onto the trend and are now designing pieces for Millennials. What do we mean by this? They are designing more leisurewear pieces that can be mixed and matched into sporty or casual, everyday outfits. It’s now fashionable to wear sportswear all day, and we’re here for it!

How can you use the athleisure trend? Read on to find out more…

Keep your loungewear

Loungewear isn’t just for working from home anymore – it’s a fashion statement. Long gone are the days when you’d be embarrassed stepping out in loungewear, it’s now time to make use of all those loungewear sets you purchased through the lockdowns. Of course, you need to know when to let go – if your loungewear set is stained with coffee stains, or the colour has faded, it’s time to say goodbye. If you want to make an entrance, your tattered loungewear set isn’t quite going to cut it.

Sporty accessories

If you want to add a sporty vibe to a dressier outfit, then accessories are the way to go. You can add a bum bag, which can be worn around the waist or in a crossbody style for a modern take. Alternatively, there are men’s pouches, that can fit just your phone and your credit card, and will look cool and laidback thanks to their thin crossbody strap. Another typical sporty accessory is the baseball cap – we love wearing these with an oversized blazer for a casual yet quirky finish to your dressier outfits.

Trainers are a good place to start

Dipping your toe into any new trend can seem daunting, so why not ease in with a single step? Trainers are a great place to start for instance. They’ll add a sportswear touch to any look. We love crisp white sneakers with tailoring, or a figure-hugging pair of jeans to add a casual vibe to your looks. Let us just say – you can never have too many pairs of white sneakers, so invest in all sorts, low tops, high tops, platforms… You’ll have so many to pair with your outfits!

You can wear your gym leggings

What we love about this trend is that now, wearing your gym leggings out is totally acceptable, even when you’re not going to the gym! Gigi Hadid knows how to rock this look, and pulls it off every time! Make sure to get some gym leggings with fancy design details, whether that is tulle panelling or a bold floral pattern. These kinds of features will allow you to inject a bit of your personality into the look. Wear them with your favourite jumper and a leather jacket and you’re done! Off-duty style in a flash! This shows that comfort doesn’t have to compromise style!

Controversial cycling shorts

Yes, those controversial cycling shorts are also part of this trend. Not only do they create a sporty vibe, but they also put a stop to chub-rub in the warmer temperatures! Before you completely rule them out – give them a chance! With a long band tee and a blazer, we’re pretty sure that they’ll win you over!
