Tips For Caring For Leather

Leather is a very durable material that can last a long time when taken care of properly. If you’re looking to get the most value out of your Chesterfield Leather Sofas, you’ll want to learn the best tips and tricks to keep it looking excellent. To understand the appropriate techniques, we went ahead and reached out to the president of a world-famous dry-cleaning service known as Madame Paulette. We gathered a bunch of tips and tricks directly from his knowledge bank. First things first, you want to keep leather away from direct sun exposure. Direct sun exposure is the last thing you want as it can fade your leather. You’ll want to use a home furniture polish on your leather at least once every 30 days to ensure it retains a nice finish.

As soon as you’ve refreshed your leather with a polish, it should last for years and years with routine maintenance. How often do you need to clean your couch made out of leather? He recommended that you clean a leather couch that is light-colored at least every six months. Whereas, you could go once per year with a darker colored one. As soon as you’ve understood the steps below, you should be able to clean the couch effortlessly.

What You Will Require For Cleaning:

  • Leather Conditioner
  • Dish Soap (Mild)
  • Clean Cloth (Microfiber)
  • Baking Soda

Continue With These Steps:

When you are looking to clean your leather furniture, you should start by vacuuming the couch. You want to get rid of any excess crumbs in it. From there, you should look to dust it with a soft duster. That way, you can get rid of any dust and debris on the surface. The good news is, a leather couch isn’t going to retain all of the liquids and other things that a much more porous fabric would. Therefore, it makes it much easier to clean. If you have a couch with removable cushions, you should remove them to vacuum underneath and in between. You’ll find that recliner sofas and chairs typically collect a lot of debris in the crevice where the chair reclines.

Tackling Stains

When it comes to getting rid of stains, you are going to want to dip a cloth in a bowl of warm water that has been mixed with mild dish soap. From there, you’ll want to get rid of excess water so it’s moist but not wet. You will want to rub in small circles all around the stain until it’s removed. Don’t rub the stain itself because it will only cause friction which can ruin your leather material. If you have a stain that’s grease, you’ll want to use a dry cloth instead with some baking soda for absorption.

Dry The Sofa

Do not forget this step. You need to dry your sofa afterward because any water is going to weaken the leather. Therefore, you should get a dry cloth out to ensure that the surface is completely dry after cleaning.

Using Cleaners

Now, you’ll want to get some leather cleaners out. These cleaners are specifically meant to be used on leather and they can be a good way to get rid of stains effectively. Leather cleaners can make your leather look brand new. A lot of the products you’ll find in the marketplace are two-in-one products that contain everything you need including the cleaner and the conditioner. You will want to spray the cleaner directly onto a cloth and then use it. Don’t spray directly on the furniture because it could end up leaving marks on it. You should be wiping down the entirety of the leather to ensure that everything is polished.

Once you’ve finished cleaning, you will want to get rid of any excess cleaner before applying the conditioner. You can get any conditioner whether spray or traditional bottle. You will only want to use a little bit as it can go a long way. A conditioner is a good product because it will contain the oils your leather needs to not only smell new but to look new.

As soon as you’ve wiped on the conditioner, you should allow it to dry for one hour. That way, you can allow the conditioner to properly absorb the material. Once it’s dry, you are ready to use it and it should look nearly brand new!
