You may have heard about the existence of such a thing as digital minimalism. At first it seems that this is another concept of the cult of productivity (nice words, but of little use), but everything is much better. Digital minimalism is an approach to organizing your online space in such a way that, on the one hand, it contains everything you need to achieve your goals, and on the other hand, there are no elements that distract from these goals.

Do not think that after spending an hour without social networks you will lose your entire audience and you will have to buy real Instagram followers. It doesn’t work like that.

In simple terms, this is an approach that minimizes the chance that you might be distracted from your shareholder presentation by your favorite blogger’s new video. There are three main areas for introducing digital minimalism into your life: the organization of online space, physical space, and the introduction of habits.

First of all, you should start working on the online space. It is very important to get my laptop and phone into a state where it will be physically difficult for me to be distracted by non-urgent tasks. First of all, this should be done by regularly deleting cyber junk: unnecessary files, tabs, shortcuts, application windows, etc. You can complete this task once a month.

Desktop computer, browser and phone screen should be crystal clear. In addition to cleaning the workspace, you can use useful tools to manage current tasks online.

Moving on to the physical space, it’s important to separate work and play areas, especially if you’re working from home. For example, a desktop is for work and study, and a sofa is for relaxing and watching movies. This way, your brain will associate certain places with the corresponding behavior. It is better to focus at the table and relax on the couch. In addition to this rule, you can build your environment to work just the way you like. For example, many people like to put candles, decor and home flowers on the desktop, because such things help to distract from stress.

Finally, the introduction of habits helps to limit yourself from redundant information during the day. One such habit is to put your phone away while working at the computer (or at least turn it upside down). This is a rule that constantly introduces people into stress. What if someone writes something important? In fact, as experience shows, very important messages can also wait. In extreme cases, you can set a timer for every 20-30 minutes, check messages and continue working.
