The Best Scalp Micropigmentation Treatment Aftercare Tips

Prepping your scalp for getting scalp micro pigmentation treatment is essential. It’s a good way to ensure you get better and longer-lasting results. You will want to consider implementing these tips to properly prep your scalp for it.

First things first, you don’t want to take any sort of pain relief medication. This includes both ibuprofen and aspirin. Taking these medications isn’t recommended and if you are taking them consistently, you’ll want to speak with your doctor to ensure you can stop for at least 48 hours before getting each session done.

You also want to avoid drinking any caffeine or alcohol before getting the procedure done. These beverages can only enhance the pain.

Try to moisturize your scalp as much as possible before getting the treatment. You want to do so with a water-based moisturizer. It’s especially important to moisturize your scalp beforehand because any amount of skin flaking can get rid of the pigment deposits that you have after the first session is completed.

You want to look at your scalp and figure out where there are problem areas. Do you have thinning hair at your crown? Do you have specific bald spots? Do you have a hairline that’s receding? These are the things you need to look at beforehand. Taking photos is a good way to ensure you can show all of them to the technician before getting the procedure completed.

Try to do a lot of research on your own to see how the procedure works, and scalp micropigmentation cost. Knowing the procedure is a good way to set the right expectations and to get yourself in a more relaxed state. If you don’t know anything, chances are very high that you will be exceedingly nervous.

Short-Term Care:

Once you’ve gone ahead and completed each session of the treatment, you will want to ensure you are implementing the right short-term care instructions. This way you can allow the pigment to get settled. During the short period after getting the procedure, you should be gentle with your scalp region. You will generally get a detailed list of instructions including what you should and shouldn’t do. This will give you plenty of information you need to care for your scalp afterward.

– Don’t Soak Your Head

You will want to avoid soaking your hair in water for as many as 5 days after the procedure. You also don’t want to partake in any activities that are going to have you sweating a lot. Any excessive sweating is likely to cause the pigments to start running. You want to avoid this so you can keep it from ruining the results of the procedure.

– Don’t Expose Your Head To The Sun

You don’t want to expose your scalp to the sun for a short period after treatment. Any exposure to UV rays can reduce the results by fading the pigments. You should look to reduce exposure to UV rays as much as possible even long after the procedure too. It can cause premature fading and force you to have to get the procedure more often.

– Pain or Swelling Relief

If you notice any pain or swelling after the treatment, there is no need to worry. This is completely natural. However, you can always help mitigate it by using a small towel filled with ice on your head. This can reduce the swelling you are experiencing and numb the pain.

– Avoid Scratching

You don’t want to scratch your head after you get the procedure done. You may feel it itchy and you may want to scratch it. However, this is best avoided. Instead, you will want to rub some moisturizer on it. If you use your fingernails to scratch, you could end up taking off some pigment.

– Wash After 5 Days

Wait at least 5 days and then you can watch your scalp with a mild shampoo.

Long Term Care:

This procedure is generally considered to be a permanent solution for your hair loss issue. This is especially true if you integrate these long-term care tips into your hair care routine. To get the most out of your treatment long-term, use these tips.

Moisturize Your Scalp

You want to ensure you are moisturizing your scalp as much as possible every day. This can keep your scalp free from flaking which can result in losing pigmentation.

Apply Sunscreen

Exposure to the sun is one of the easiest ways to fade the pigment. Try to wear a hat or stay under the umbrella. However, exposure to the sun is also unavoidable. Because of this, you’ll want to wear SPF 50 sunscreen on your head. This can help to limit the damage the sun’s harmful UV rays can do to the pigment.

Avoid Certain Products

You don’t want to use any hair care products that contain alcohol on them. Try to avoid using these products because the alcohol can absorb into your scalp and result in the pigments getting faded and blotchy.

Exfoliate

You want to exfoliate your scalp a minimum of once per week. This can help you shed any dead skin cells and enhance the overall look of the pigment.

Consult With Your Technician

You will need to get touch-ups. You will want to consult with them to figure out when you need them. Keep in mind that even though it’s a permanent solution, the micro-pigmentation will fade with time. You can generally expect to go 50 years without needing a touch-up with the right maintenance.

When you do get a touch-up, you can customize the look of your hair by changing your hairline, changing the color, and in other ways.
