How to Cure a Headache Before Going to Bed?

Whether you have an underlying condition or not, nobody is safe from an occasional headache. While most of the time it’s a result of a stressful day or low blood pressure, drowsing off might not be an option here. So, why exactly does it happen? And, more importantly, how do you deal with the condition to have some peaceful slumber? Well, that’s what we are to talk about here today.

  • Migraine. The condition is diagnosed due to a pulsating pain and spasms in one of the head sides. Affecting only certain areas of your pain sensors, a person may experience drowsiness and even visual alteration.
  • Hatband. Wrapping your head around, like a hat, this type of headache manifests through excessive pressure in the temples, back, and front. Interestingly, both this headache and migraines can easily occur at the same time, causing a great deal of discomfort. 
  • Sinus and cluster pains. Both based around the eyeball area, the pains don’t last long and may be spurred by nasal congestion or eye tension. The difference is that the former affects both of the face sides and spreads down to the nasal area, whereas the latter is more local and hits your eyeball directly. 

Pre-Sleep Headache Causes

As for reasons why headaches occur, there is no single cause. The condition is a result of different physiological and mental effects, which happen when your body is triggered by external circumstances. Your headache may be an aftermath of:

  • Stress-related issue. It’s a known fact that people who experience a lot of mental tension are inclined to have high blood pressure and, consequently, headaches. Interestingly, anger and fear can also be responsible for your pain, as well as fear and anxiety. 
  • Poor diet. Eating too much is unlikely to be the reason for sleep disruption. Whereas, eating too little is a top cause of the condition. If your body doesn’t receive a sufficient amount of nutrients, especially during the night time when it begins to rebuild itself, you may suffer. 
  • Sleeping position and posture. Maybe, you like to sleep without a pillow or with the pillow too high? Yes, this is it. When your blood vessels are tightened or stretched too much, your head doesn’t receive the blood supply it needs, thus, activating its pain centers. 

Night Headache Treatment

Depending on the cause of your night discomfort, there are things you can do in order to avoid the condition. Here are a few that you can incorporate into your daily routine if headaches are too much to handle:

  1. Apply pressure. If you have migraines or cluster pains, you can gently massage the areas to restore the blood pressure rate. 
  2. Do exercise. Right, it’s an old one, but it works. Spend 5-10 minutes stretching, bending, or even doing yoga before going to bed. This will relax your muscles and untighten the spinal cord.
  3. Increase your water consumption. Water acts both as a coolant and refresher, which stimulates your muscles and reduces stomach acidity, so the more you drink, the better you feel.
  4. Relax. Mostly, headaches are a result of stress and high adrenaline. Use essential oils and drink some hot tea before going to bed for relaxation.
